Third week in Taiwan

Hey guys! So I am here to share my third week stories about my Taiwan volunteering experience and also the days I spent in my host family's house.

30th November 2015 - 07th December 2015

My past week wasn't as wonderful as before. I shouldn't say it in this way, or maybe I shall say that I was only stressful in the host family place.

I was told that I was going to stay in the headmistress house for one whole week and I did not expect something bad cos I thought it would be good to stay in the house that the person I know. Plus when I first saw her, she was friendly and very enthusiasted about me and my stories in Malaysia.

However, I was quite disappointing cos I was actually the youngest in her house and I was being ignored throughout the one whole week.

Okay, I think I should elaborate in this way. I was all alone in the house until I don't even get my own lunch on one particular afternoon.

I felt that myself was quite miserable on that afternoon. I was starving. Not joking. Real starving experience.

My first meal of the day was the breakfast, at 9.30 am. Then I starved till 5 p.m and couldn't stand it anymore. I went downstairs for instant cup noodle when their father reached home and opened the lift sensor for me.

Their house was an apartment/condo/flat or whatever it is called. That's why they need the lift key to go up and downstairs, in and out from the condo.

The only part that I get freedom was that I was managed to travel alone in Taipei city during the student's semester exam.

I was told that I don't have to go to school as I have nothing to do on the day itself.

Let me talk about the house first.

Headmistress was stern and I was stressful.

I can't tell if she hates me or what, but she looked like she despised me, looking down on me. I am not being sensitive, but she kept on asking how's my family's financial situation, what my parents do, is my relationship with siblings good, do my siblings go to the university, etc ...

I meant... Why she has to ask me this kind of questions? Are you really that curious about these things? What if my siblings do not go to the university? Are you going to judge them?

I can see that her family is rich cos she always told me that she travelled where and travelled to where. Okay la, acceptable.

But she showed off how close her family is? My god, unacceptable.

Travelling Taipei alone was the funnest thing I did throughout the days in Taiwan. I smelled my freedom!

However, as you all know, good times don't last long.

The host family's daughter asked me to wait for her at one of the MRT station in Taipei, so I can visit Shilin Night Market with her. Starting from the moment she called me, I was stressed up, again.

Throughout the whole Taipei trip, I cycled all the way to the destination I wanted to go. I only used the MRT twice, I think?

Here are the pictures from my Taipei one day trip

The National Concert Theater

National Musical Theater

Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall

The Musical Theater was just opposite to the National Musical Theater and the Memorial Hall was just in the middle end of both buildings.

In the middle, there was this huge space called Square of Liberty.

This was at the liberty square (自由广场)
The panorama view

Memorial hall of Chiang Kai Shek (First president in Taiwan)

The door was really huge
I thought that there was something to see in the memorial hall, like those history history stuffs. WRONG

I WAS WRONG.

The soldiers were performing their marching and also their gun performance. I don't find it fascinating since I watched that before already. Besides that, it was totally a horrible experience.

There were so many of the China visitors. They wanted to grab the most front standing space to watch the soldier to perform, so they quickly ran towards and simply bang into people just like that. No etiquette at all. Ish!

Inside the hall was nothing but only this Mr. President's statue. To complete my blogging experience, I took one of the picture, here you go!

Nah, I've seen this everywhere, so I took one of his picture only.
Walking down the staircase after visiting this memorial hall and got scolded by one of this China visitor, saying that I blocked her view of taking pictures -.- (she wasn't really scolding but asked me to move out off her way in such impolite way)

My initial visiting time in this memorial hall was about 1 hour but it ended up being 30 minutes and it was still early, some of the places that I was going to visit hasn't open yet.

I stayed for about 10 minutes and started wandering around. I found a public transport that was pretty interesting - riding a bike.

They have bicycles everywhere for rent! It was very convenient to me, so I registered my number and started cycling using my EasyCard.

U-bike
THIS IS EVERYWHERE!

I cycled this from one place to another without using MRT. *Accomplished

During my cycling journey, I've cycled many wrong way, but fortunately I am able to speak in Chinese and asked most of the passerby. They were quite helpful to help :)

Presidential Office

Went to Xi Men Ding 西门町 to walk around.

Busy streets in Xi Men Ding

I passed by one of the small stall in Xi Men Ding, saw this uncle selling food and I was very hungry since my last meal.

So I went and bought this

Ham egg roll
It costed me about 45 NTD (~RM 4.50)

Malaysian food still cheaper. Hmm..
Then I started my cycling journey

One of the park I passed by

Taipei 小巨蛋

Didn't really took much pictures cos I was busy crossing and cycling the streets.

Sun Yat Sen Memorial hall

Inside they have this

View from the memorial hall

I asked a stranger for this picture

This fountain started to sprinkled out water when I done visiting the memorial hall, how lucky I was.
Cycled all the way here and it was already late noon.
Afraid that the sky gets dark, I quickly move towards the next destination after my visit here in Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall.

Of course, my next destination would be Taipei 101. I proceeded using YouBike again :/

The building was really near to the memorial hall and I thought there was some distance there, so I rented the bike again.

Soon I was on the bike already, after 5 minutes, I immediately regretted taking the bike to Taipei 101. The building is within walking distance and why the in world I took the bike omg. Ignorant.

Wasted my money lol

The rates are below:

Okay la, maybe it's not really expensive but nobody spend money going to a place where you can reach by walking.

Then I cycled about 20 more minutes then I cannot stand it anymore, so near yet so far. Can't wait to explore the building, so I just put back the bike at the station and walk there.

On the way of going Taipei 101, I saw there was this exhibition center right beside it and inside was holding a gadget exhibition - those selling digital stuffs, computers, laptops and etc.

Took some turns inside, found nothing fascinating and came back out. Already 4.30 pm

Quickly made my steps to Taipei 101 before the sky gets darker. During winter time in Taiwan, sunrise is at 5 pm

Shopped in there for half an hour, all branded stuffs. Not interested. I meant the price.

My brother asked me to find him a laptop bag. A slinging one, with a budget of around 400 sgd. I couldn't fins it though. Brands in there were so unfamiliar to me, perhaps that I don't use too branded stuffs. That's why I know nothing, to be frank.

The mall was selling loads of slinging laptop bags but too expensive! I raised my courage and went in one of the shop to ask the price.

10000 NTW?!

Sorry, I can't afford that bro

The famous stinky tofu
The headmistress's daughter asked me to meet her at Jian Tan MRT station at 6.35 pm because we were going to the famous night market together!

Unfortunately, I didn't get to explore the lower ground- which is also the main point of whole market.

The whole lower ground place was shut down because they need to clean up the pipes, so that the oil stain don't block the pipes.

We only managed to shop at the surface of the market, which was not the main point of the whole thing :/

Besides that, I don't think I was feeling comfortable the whole night sharing food with somebody that I don't know. Although I told her that I didn't mind, but actually I do, how contradict was that?

We took a long journey bus back to Jhongli - her house and I thought of sleeping in the bus, but we ended up talking about her, her family and also little portion of me.

Didn't find it fun, probably I need to go there again with Sook Lynn.

Here's a Snapchat video that I saved it after the day. It sums up all :)

During one of the day, I think it was Thursday, I joined the Grade 8 students to visit a senior high school.

The whole process was more like knowing what you gonna do in the future, and allow the students know how is it like to be in that particular course.

Here, I was with Class 801 - the class that I enjoyed to spend my time with.

Showing off our milk bottles!

This is what we did - a milk bottle!

It's really blurry

Take another one!

Last!

Anyway, I really like them so much and they always asked me to join their PE class hohoho finally get to do some exercise.

I was so looking forward to shift another host family lololol

Okay, stay tune for week 4! :D

Lots of loves,
